How this calculator works
The calculator separates the measured roof quantity from the planning allowance so you can see both numbers. It then multiplies the adjusted roofing squares by the bundle count you enter.

Formula used
Base squares = roof area ÷ 100. Adjusted squares = base squares × waste factor. Approximate bundles = adjusted squares × bundles per square.
Worked example
For a measured 2,000-square-foot roof with a 10% planning allowance, the calculator returns 20 base squares and 22 adjusted squares. If the exact product uses 3 bundles per square, the planning quantity is approximately 66 bundles.
Do not use house square footage automatically
A home's floor area and roof area can differ substantially. Story count, pitch, overhangs, garages, porches and roof geometry all affect the roof surface. If you only know footprint and slope, use the Roof Pitch Calculator before converting to squares.
Choosing a waste allowance
Waste is not a universal fixed percentage. A simple gable roof with clear dimensions can differ from a roof with many valleys, hips, dormers and penetrations. Use the calculator to test scenarios, then verify the final order quantity with the installer or supplier.
